Setting the nav bar and header area to full screen width (edge to edge) at all times?

Does anyone know how to set the nav bar and header area to cover edge to edge all the time? I like where the text, nav, site icon are all set margin-wise but I want the colors to stretch to the edge of the screen in both cases. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The scaffolding we are using uses a div with a class of "container" that wraps any major block such as the main body, or components such as header, top nav, footer, etc. Bootstrap defines the container to have a fixed width of no more than 1200 pixels wide.

You could either remove the container div, thus allowing rows to be completely fluid, or you could override the container class to have a width of 100%. This might make a few components of the site not look correct, but a few more simple changes to your stylesheet to pull everything back in line.
